As a former employee of Circuit city I would like to warn consumers about the extened warantees. They are a complete rip-off and trying to get your item repaired or replaced is almost impossible.
First of all in Feb. Of the company switched from commission sales clerks to hourly sales clerks and fired anyone who made over $16.00 an hour average. Most of those employees were with the company for years and very knowledgable people.
The company was left with sales clerks, including myself, who knew just some what information and teenagers from other departments who knew absolutely nothing and were moved into positions of sales clerks to fill the positions of people they fired. Now, even though there is no pressurre from the company of getting your commission sales numbers up, there is presure on all associates to sell service plans because that is now where Circuit City makes thier money.
There is a board out back where every employee name is written and the percentage of service plans you sell and the percentage of accessories you sell. The sales clerks are pushed to sell as many accessories and service plans as they can and if your numbers are below a certain percentage for two months in a row you are fired. So, when you walk into a Circuit City now for a camera, computer, tv or whatever the teeny bopper selling you the item first of all doesn't care that you are there, doesnt know anything, and forces you to buy accessories you dont need and the service plan that is a complete waste of money.
I have seen so many customers trying to get thier item repaired and having to jump through hoops to get it done and leaving angry and cancelling the plan. PLEASE do not buy the service plan and do not listen to the sales clerks pitch about how important it is because its a lie all they care about is getting their percentage up so they dont get fired.
I was fired after a year for calling in sick to put my dog to sleep. Because the company fired so many people they were short staffed and needed me to come in or there was going to be no coverage in the digital camera department. I was crying and crushed that I had to put my dog to sleep and the manager said that if I didn't come into work that that day was to be my last. Now the department has 2 teenagers one of which has very limited knowledge and the other is new with no knowledge and a new older gentlemen who has no idea what he's doing and is being trained by the teenager with limited knowledge.
As much as I hate Best Buy I am now going to be forced to shop there because I wouldnt give Circuit City the time of day and tell everyone I know what kind of company Circuit City really is.
If you must shop there here are some rules to get you through a safe shopping experience and to save yourself some money ; #1 - dont be fooled by rebates thinking you'll save money because the chances of you actually getting your rebate is slim to none, #2 - Do your research on your item on your own either online or reading magazines because if you go with questions the chances of getting accurate information is almost impposible, #3 - DO NOT listen to the sales clerk and waste your money on the service plan because you'll wish you didnt if something goes wrong with your item. And #4 -if you can shop somewhere else and save yourself the trouble.
