I purchased an extended warranty from Circuit City for a 42" Phillips Plasma HDTV, the first TV that was delivered started making a clicking sound when the TV was off, the same sound you would here when turning the TV on or off, in addition the screen would go black when watching for 5-10 seconds while still getting sound which tells me the signal was still there coming through.
I called Circuit City and they would have their local repair company contact me but they never did and when I called the repair company I was told they had no record of this, and in a very sarcastic tone. I got angry and went to Circuit City and spoke to the manager who was nice enough to replace the TV. The replacement TV has the same exact problems however they didn't begin immediately.
I called Circuit City again and they did contract a repair company to come to my home, when the two men arrived I explained the problem but advised that it happens internittently and may not happen while they were present, one of the guys stated "How can we fix a problem if we can't see what is going on", but then said they would take the back cover off and see if their is anything obvious, they proceeded to take the cover off and one of them noticed that one of the screws was half turned out and he proceeded to accuse me of taking the TV apart! I assured him that I have no knowledge of plasma TV's and would have no reason to try to take the TV apart to fix it. They didn't see anything obvious as I expected and started re-soldering circuit bourds etc. Explaining that this MIGHT solve the problem.
Well it did not, so I called Circuit City again, this time I was told that they no longer use that company and another company, but the representative also stated that they had no record of the previous service call! I now have been waiting 1 week and no call from the service company they are now using, whom I have no idea who that company is because I wasn't given a name and didn't think to ask for it.
I was in Circuit City for another reason once and spoke to a salesperson abut my problems and he said that this is the reason they do not carry that brand anymore because it had many problems! This has been a nightmare and the over 500.00 I spent on their protection plan is a total rip-off and will NEVER buy another plan from anyone.
