I purchased a "beltronics model rx65 radar detector" from sbh and paid $234 plus $15 shipping charge. When i received the item i opened the packaged and looked at the owner's manual which required that i complete the registration card and mail it in to "beltronics" { the manufacturer }, in order to assure that the item is registered and thus that the manufacturers guaranty is valid and in effect. I needed to read the serial number from the serial tag mounted on the item. I checked the item thoroughly and was unable to locate any serialization identification tag, or model number. I called the manufacturer "beltronics" to inquire about the fact that the unit came to me without any serializaton or id tag mounted on it and asked what they "beltronics' thought that i should do about it. Beltronics told me that if it had no serial number tag then the unit is probably either not manufactured by them { meaning cheap grey market copy }, or may have been a stolen item, or may have been a unit that had been returned for repair, and stolen from their repair shop without certififcation that the repair had been completed. Consequently beltronics told me that they can not honor the warrantee that normally comes with a new item like that, purchased from their authorized dealers. They told me to send the item back to them and demand a refund. I then called ebh and explained what happened and after some haggling they agreed to send me a return authorization tag and told me to ship the item back to them.
After shipping the item back and after they verified that their shipping department received the item, they had agreed to refund my entire purchase cost.
Subsequently they credited my credit card with a refund of $234 but failed to refund my initial &15 shipping charge. I called the company about ten times asking for my $15 and each time they promised to refund the $15 but never did. Finally on the eleventh and twelth calls they began hanging up on me as soon as i identified myself.
I believe the they are and unscrupulous group of foreign accent speaking people who are dealing in the business of undercutting manufacturers price by selling false/cheap imitations of the real thing with invalid warrantees.
Since they are apparently a large internet electronics company, i wonder how many people out there are also being cheated.
I would like to hear from anyone who knows how i can bring corrective action to bear down upon the operator of ebh corp.
Last but not least i notified beltronics about the scam operation that they are running and how they may be messing up beltronics reputation. Beltronics immediately posted their name on their warning list of unauthorized dealers so that anyone should avoid doing the business of buying beltronics products from them.
I urge anyone reading this complaint to avoid dealing with them. Thank you very much
