I had damage to my floors so the insurance company asked me to get 3 estimates. I looked on line and found Empire Today, the website had 2 different links to "free in home estimates" I clicked on one followed the instuctions and made an appiontment. I had to stay at home to meet with them, when the man came I told hime I needed an estimate for the hall, dinning room, and living room. I was told they do not give estimates they will only do contracts one day in advance. You can not get an estimate at all. I said this is crazy your web site, yellow pages, and mail adds all say free estimates.
I was then told the estimate is a contract that I would have to sign and they would only do that if I would allow the work to be done the following day. No time to think about it or to get real estimates. That sounds strange to me, then he tried to I guess scare me into using them by telling me that no company was going to give me an estimate and that I was going to have to pay the other people I had scheduled to come out just for showing up, then they would be over priced.
The man then asked for my phone so he could call his affice to cancle the appiontment with me, strange you are here now why do you have to cancel and why use my phone don't you have a cell of your own or a company supplied one? Then when he called he told them he needed to cancel the apiontment he was on the customer wants an estimate and "as you know we don't do estimates".
I would never sign a contract with a company that will only let you see it less than 24 hours before they do the job that is just a huge red flag.
