AIG "forced" Claim Payment on Me

I was rear ended while stopped at a red light last weekend. The other driver was drunk and clearly at fault. I got his information and called AIG to alert them that I had been involved in an accident, and I gave them the other party's insurance information. I was advised that they would be contacting the other party's insurance company to get payment.

If the other company would not pay, I had the option of getting an estimate myself or letting them estimate the damage and issue a check; I told them if it came to that, I would get estimates myself. I took it upon myself to call the other party's insurance company to file claim myself, and they stated they had not heard from AIG. They processed the claim and determined the other driver (their client) was completely liable.

During this time, the AIG adjuster called and said he wanted to come by to look at my car. I advised him that I was working with the other insurance company, and they would be fixing my car, and to please contact them. He said he still needed to "take a look", so he did, while I was at work; he did not ask me to come out while he was there, he just left an estimate on the windshield.

My trunk does not open now, so he could not possibly have accurately estimated the damage. I made an appointment to bring my car in to the other insurance company's "concierge" center to be fixed, not thinking much of AIG's estimate left on my windshield... I was supposed to get my own estimates anyway, if I needed them to pay for repairs.

Today in the mail I received a check for the estimate minus the deductable from AIG! I had not agreed to their estimate, and I had informed them that the other company was paying for my repairs! The other comapny is fixing my car with no deductable, and I don't want AIG's check, and I certainly don't want my premium to go up becasue of this.

They obviously were not listening when I told them the other company was accepting full liability, a nd why would they pay a claim when they could get someone else to pay? I am furious... I can't wait to leave this company. Why would the adjuster ignore my statement and issue a check, when I have not even submitted any estimates? I do not want an at fault accident reported on me.
