My husband and I hired Sunshine Floor Design Gallery to install tile in most of the downstairs of our home and our 2 upstairs bathrooms. They scheduled to come to my home on a Wednesday just before Memorial day weekend. I asked them how many day it would take to complete the job and they told me it would be finished by Friday (3 days). They sent 2 men on Wednesday (they showed up 3 hours late) to remove all my old carpet and scrape the floor clean. They spent the entire day at my house working very slowly and taking long breaks. Neither of the 2 men spoke English. The 2 men were going into my refrigerator without permission and helped themselves to sodas. I was unaware because I was staying out of their way and caring for my baby at the time. I found their empty soda cans all over my house, spilled on the carpeted areas I was keeping, and left on my pine wood furniture where it left rings from the wetness.
The second day they came out late again, finishing the removal of the carpet residue. I called the office to complain that they were in no way going to have this finished in 3 days as promised. The workers again helped themselves to drinks in my garage. They cut the tile inside of my garage leaving a huge mess everywhere. They proped my door open so they could go in and out of the house and to make things worse they turned my air conditioning thermostat to 68 degrees because they were hot from leaving the door open. It was the end of May and 90 degrees plus degree outside. I called the office to complain again that they were doing all this without asking. I couldn't tell any of the workers because none of them spoke any English. Saturday came around and they were no where near finished. One of them who spoke very little English told me they would not come out until Monday and I would have to have an unfinished floor over the weekend. They said they would be out 8 am Monday morning. No one showed up Monday and no one answered the phones.
Tuesday came and they showed up 2 hours late. I called the office to chew them out for lying about coming back. The workers lied to them and said they ran out of tile so they couldn't come out to work. (there was huge stacks of tile in the garage) By now I was already noticing some serious problems with the tile. They make really uneven cuts that looked completely unprofessional and stupid. Every tile was uneven and unlevel. The lippage was really bad. Non of the grout lines were straight or even. Some grout lines were 1/8 inch while others were 1/2 inch. They didn't put any tile under the dish washer, they only tiled up to the egde of the machine and then grouted the tile to the dishwasher!!! I told them this was horrible and I was not paying for the job. They told me they were going to put a lein on my homeand I told them I was contacting the State Contractor's board. FInally they sent 2 managers out to look at the job and they agreed to rip it all out and redo the job.
The crew did not come for a week. Then when they showed up at 8am, they started jackhammering the tile out. Dust was flying everywhere!"I said, "Aren't you going to cover anything with plastic?" They just looked at me funny. I finally made them tape up some plastic around varius area of the house and the furniture but they didn't cover it well. This crew finished the job in another week. They left garbage everywhere such as razor blades. My 1 year old daughter found one. They swept huge piles of garbage UNDER my carpet where it met the tile and then tacked it down over it. We could see and feel it under there when we walked on it. There was tile dust in every inch of my home. It was on the walls, and the furniture, in my pantry, on my dishes... Etc. I complained to them and they refused to clean it or pay for a cleaner to come out and do it. They told me it's MY responsibility to clean up after they made the mess. This entire nightmare took over a month.
I still had to have them come out 3 times to repair grout problems and cracked tiles and to this day I have an excessive amount of cracking in my grout and pooly laid tiles in various area. They have refused to come back and repair the holes and cracks in my grout. They left the baseboards filthy and I have had to repaint all of them. They damaged walls and doors with their equiptment. I have also notice that my toilets do not function well since they replaced them. Sunshine told me their installers are not plumbers and are not responsible for any plumbing problems after the job is done.
To this day I cannot enjoy my floors. I'm constantly reminded of the nightmare when I look at all the mistakes still left behind and each time I have to fix cracks and holes. I hope this story keeps people from considering using their business to install any type of flooring. They are completely unprofessional and have no business in the floorng industry.
