Sears Warranty Questionable
I had a lot of trouble trying to get the refrigerator repairman just to come and take a look at the my brother's refrigerator. When he finally came he would not fix it since as he says "It is not under warranty since another technician had worked on it". The refrigerator belonged to my brother who was at work. My brother said that he had told the Sears telemarketing representative who sold him the extended warranty that fact but she/he said that as long as it was working it would not be a problem.
They did not honor their agreement. This disappoints me very much. Even if it was an unknowing mistake on her part she represents the company and they should honor their agreement. If Sears departments are not communicating within themselves, that is something they should iron out and still be responsible for their agreements.
The technician kept trying to talk us into buying another refrigerator for about $800 plus saying that they were having a sale. Why would I want to buy another Sears refrigerator if they don't honor their prior commitment I thought to myself. Why buy anything else from Sears for that matter? After my brother got home and after two hours on the phone with Sears, he finally got fed with the transfers and "runaroud" as he put it that he just gave up and sent them a letter. My brother eventually bought a used refrigerator that is working really nice.
The non working refrigerator has a leak on it and the technician mentioned that he had recently fixed two refrigerators which had the leak in the same place. When I was young the refrigerators used to last a lot longer then this one. I figure that like the company designs these refrigerators to last just long enough for you to pay for it and then you'd have to buy another one. Similar to the automotive industry.
Is this greed at the top level? We are hurting ourselves. Foreign competitors will come it and more Americans will be out of a job.
