Date is inappropriate. Anyway, for years the Canon drivers for their canoscan Lide scanners are terrible. Won't scan, if they do it's slow, often crash, at best get 2 scans before requiring a restart of the computer. I had to pay an extra $40 for a third party scan software (vuescan.) Canon's website and online support was little help. I contacted many times. Few updates and they don't fix the problem. Basically they can't be bothered writing drivers for Macs.
