Sleep Number orders, 100-night trial, returns and warranty: what to do (checked October 6, 2026)

Check the company's status first. Sleep Number Corporation and its subsidiaries filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions on June 12, 2026 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York (In re Sleep Number Corporation, et al., Case No. 26-11399). The company's Form 8-K filed August 3, 2026 says the sale of substantially all of its assets to SNBR, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sleep Country Canada Inc., closed on July 31, 2026, with cash proceeds of $529.5 million. The claims agent's case site (Kroll) lists a general claims bar date of September 10, 2026 (already passed) and a governmental bar date of December 9, 2026, and says a hearing on the disclosure statement for the debtors' Joint Plan of Sale is set for October 15, 2026. If you have an unresolved money claim that arose before June 12, 2026, the case site's 'Submit a Claim' page and the claims agent are the official routes; this page is not legal advice.

What the company said about customers. In its June 12, 2026 press release (filed with the SEC) the company said it was 'standing behind its 100-night trial and honoring its warranties, gift cards and Sleep Number Reward points and store credits.' That statement predates the July 31 closing. The Amended and Restated Asset Purchase Agreement dated July 18, 2026 (Exhibit 10.1 to the Form 8-K filed July 23, 2026) lists, in Section 2.3, liabilities the purchaser assumes: liabilities for returns of merchandise previously sold, 'to the extent such returns are in compliance with the applicable return policy in effect as of the time of such sale'; liabilities for gift cards and gift certificates outstanding at closing, including loyalty or rewards obligations 'to the extent such rewards are redeemable for gift cards, gift certificates or other merchandise'; liabilities for customer orders for inventory not yet shipped before closing; and liabilities from warranties relating to transferred assets 'that are first incurred or arise after the Closing'. Section 2.5 says the purchaser assumes only the Assumed Liabilities and not other liabilities of the seller group. The agreement is a contract between the companies, not a promise made to an individual customer, and in the sources checked on October 7, 2026 I did not find a later company statement applying it to a particular trial, warranty or gift-card case, so confirm any open order or warranty claim in writing.

100-night trial and returns. The Returns & Exchanges article (header date March 24, 2026) says mattresses can be returned 'through calling our Customer Service Center'; bedding can go back through stores, chat or phone; bed accessories through chat or phone. It says you may contact the company 'within your 100-night In-Home Trial to arrange for a one-time exchange'; the exchanged product 'is considered a final sale', does not get a new 100-night trial and is not eligible for return or exchange. Final-sale items listed are adjustable bases (including FlexFit smart adjustable bases), upholstered furniture and accessories, and display products. 'Returns must be authorized'; an item returned without approval 'will be discarded, and no refund or credit will be issued.' Refunds go to the original payment method 'within about 21 days, unless required by law.' The article text read on October 6, 2026 does not state a return, pick-up or restocking fee, so ask for any charge to be stated in writing before you authorize a return.

Cancelling or changing an order. The support center says a Home Delivery order 'cannot be cancelled or changed online' and must be handled by phone; if an item has already shipped you can refuse delivery or accept it and arrange a return or exchange. Upholstered furniture orders cannot be canceled or changed once purchased. For service visits (article dated September 10, 2026) the same article says same-day cancellations are handled by phone at 1-888-411-2188 and 'If you do need to cancel less than 24-hours, you may not be refunded the cost of the service visit.'

Warranty. The company's Warranty page (opened October 6, 2026) says mattresses and bases bought on or after March 23, 2026 (except Costco Ultimate and hSE models) carry '10 years of protection under our Full 2-Year Warranty and 8-Year Limited Warranty', with a 10-year stain-protection limited warranty; remotes carry a full 2-year or 1-year warranty and replacement parts a full 1-year warranty. For June 17, 2024 through March 22, 2026 purchases the page lists a '15-Year Limited Warranty'; bedding and DualTemp layers have a 1-year limited warranty. The page says the warranty details 'including an arbitration provision' are on the page and has an Arbitration tab. Read the version that matches your purchase date and keep your receipt.

Contacts. The website footer gives 1-888-411-2188 and live chat 6am-11pm CT daily; the Returns article gives 1-800-472-7185 (Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM CT, Saturday 10AM-2PM CT) and chat 6AM-11PM CT seven days a week; the site header shows 1-877-773-3641. The company's corporate number is (763) 551-7000.

Other routes. A BBB complaint can be filed on the BBB profile. The FTC's ReportFraud site invites reports about 'bad business practices'. For financing, the Sleep Number support article 'Sleep Number Financing' says 'Sleep Number partners with Synchrony Bank' and that Synchrony is the main point of contact for billing and payment questions (payments at mysynchrony.com, by mail or at 1-800-250-5411); it says financing terms begin 'on the day your products are delivered', so items delivered on different dates may have different start dates, and the first bill should arrive within 30 days of delivery. A card account is a contract with the card issuer named on your statement, not with the mattress retailer. For a safety problem with a bed, see the CPSC recalls below and the federal SaferProducts.gov reporting site.

CPSC recalls of Sleep Number and Select Comfort products

CPSC recalls (2). Searching the CPSC recall database on October 6, 2026 by title, manufacturer and retailer for 'Sleep Number' and 'Select Comfort' returned two recalls:

  • July 9, 2003 - adjustable beds (recall 03547). CPSC and Select Comfort Corporation recalled about 90,000 Sleep Number beds sold November 2002 through March 15, 2003 that were shipped through or to cold-weather locations. CPSC says the power cord insulation on the air pump 'can crack', creating a short-circuit or exposed-wire shock hazard in severe cold and impact; two reports of cords cracking, no injuries or property damage reported. Remedy: a free replacement air pump for owners whose cords show damage.
  • November 17, 2017 - foot warmers (recall 18702). Sleep Number recalled about 11,900 foot warmers sold with Sleep Number 360 smart beds (models i7 and i10) used with a FlexFit 3 adjustable base. CPSC says the foot warmer under the mattress cover 'can short circuit and overheat, posing a burn hazard'; six reports of overheating, including one burn injury that did not require medical attention. Remedy: stop using and disable the foot warmer; the company contacted known consumers to provide a free replacement foot warmer and installation.

No other CPSC recall of Sleep Number or Select Comfort products appeared in those searches. The FTC's and state attorneys general's enforcement pages were not searched to completion for this page, so no statement is made about them.

Who Sleep Number is, the 2026 asset sale, and older names

Identity. Sleep Number Corporation is a Minnesota corporation (SEC registrant, CIK 827187) with principal offices at 1001 Third Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404. SEC records show it was named Select Comfort Corporation until October 27, 2017. Its Form 10-K for fiscal 2025 says it operated 600 Sleep Number stores in all 50 states as of January 3, 2026, and that stores were 88% of 2025 net sales. The company says it has operated for 40 years; BBB page data list 1987 as the business start date.

2026 restructuring. The June 12, 2026 8-K says the company entered into a 'stalking horse' asset purchase agreement with SNBR, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sleep Country Canada Inc., for $415 million in cash plus assumed liabilities. After a court-supervised auction, an Amended and Restated Asset Purchase Agreement dated July 18, 2026 raised the base cash price to $529,500,000 (8-K filed July 23, 2026). The August 3, 2026 8-K says the Bankruptcy Court entered a sale order on July 21, 2026, the sale closed July 31, 2026, about $267.4 million of proceeds repaid the debtor-in-possession and roll-up loans, $10.0 million went into an adjustment escrow, and the company does not expect any proceeds for stockholders; common stock will be cancelled when the plan takes effect. EDGAR also shows a Form 15-12G filed August 3, 2026. This was a purchase of assets, so the corporation that took your order and the company now running the stores and website may be different legal entities; the website footer read on October 6, 2026 says '(c) 2000 - 2026 SNBR Inc. and Sleep Number Retail Corporation'.

Older names in this site's archive. Posts from 2002-2013 name 'Select Comfort', 'Sleep Number Bed' or 'Select Comfort Sleep Number'; those are the same company's earlier name and product line. Some older posts also name the lenders that financed beds (for example HC Processing / The Help Card and GE Money); those are different businesses.

A keyword count of those 46 posts (a post can match several): 23 mention warranty, replacement or prorated costs; 19 mention a pump, air chamber, remote or leak; 19 mention delivery or shipping; 17 mention the trial, return costs or refunds; 12 mention financing or a credit account; 11 mention firmness, back pain or lack of support. Another 12 posts are linked as non-primary because they are about the lenders that financed a bed, and 1 is about a collection letter over a bed account; they are not counted above.

Bankruptcy case, the disclosed California class action, and other federal dockets

Bankruptcy case. In re Sleep Number Corporation, et al., Case No. 26-11399 (Bankr. S.D.N.Y.), jointly administered; the claims agent's case page names the Honorable Kyu Young Paek. Petition date June 12, 2026. Per the case site: bidding procedures order July 2, 2026; sale hearing July 20, 2026; general claims bar date September 10, 2026; governmental bar date December 9, 2026; the debtors filed a Joint Plan of Sale and Disclosure Statement on September 4, 2026, with a disclosure-statement hearing set for October 15, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. ET.

Consumer class action disclosed by the company (stayed). The company's Form 10-K for fiscal 2025 and Form 10-Q for the quarter ended April 4, 2026 (filed May 12, 2026) say that on September 27, 2024 a purported customer served a putative class action on behalf of California consumers in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California alleging that Sleep Number's beds are 'perpetually on sale' in violation of California law, seeking injunctive relief, damages and attorney's fees. The company's filings say it moved to dismiss the amended complaint and the Magistrate recommended dismissal without prejudice, a recommendation pending with the court as of the May 2026 10-Q. The Justia docket for Evans v. Sleep Number Corporation, No. 1:24-cv-01136 (E.D. Cal.), shows the case was filed September 24, 2024 and the summons was returned executed with service on September 27, 2024, the same service date the company's filings give; Justia lists the nature of suit as 'Other Fraud' and does not itself describe the claims. Filing 39, an order signed by Magistrate Judge Stanley A. Boone on June 16, 2026, states that 'all proceedings in this matter against Defendant Sleep Number Corporation are STAYED pursuant to Section 362(a)' of the Bankruptcy Code, after the company filed a suggestion of bankruptcy on June 15, 2026, and directs a party to notify the court within thirty days of the conclusion of the bankruptcy actions. The stay is not a ruling on the allegations.

Other federal dockets. A Justia party-name search on October 6, 2026 lists federal dockets naming Sleep Number or Select Comfort Retail Corporation, with these Nature of Suit entries: Missouri E.D. 4:26-cv-00071 (product liability); New Mexico 1:25-cv-00825 (personal injury); Southern District of Florida 1:25-cv-22954 and Northern District of Georgia 1:25-cv-02768 (Americans with Disabilities Act); Minnesota 0:25-cv-01157 (copyright); Western District of Pennsylvania 2:25-cv-00367 (contract); Minnesota 0:25-cv-00652 (arbitration); Central District of California 2:25-cv-00352 (fraud, diversity); Minnesota 0:24-cv-04652 (ADA). I did not read the complaints, so these are listed only as docket entries and no claim is described. The company's filings say its legal proceedings are 'primarily commercial, product liability, employment and intellectual property claims' that it does not expect to have a material effect.

Is Sleep Number Legitimate?

Sleep Number Corporation is a Minnesota corporation that filed annual and quarterly reports with the SEC (most recently the Form 10-Q for the quarter ended April 4, 2026) and filed a Form 15-12G on August 3, 2026. It operated company stores in all 50 states per its 10-K, holds a BBB Accredited rating of A+ on the headquarters file as displayed October 6, 2026, and has two CPSC recalls on record (2003 and 2017). It filed for Chapter 11 on June 12, 2026 and, per its own 8-K, closed the sale of substantially all assets to a Sleep Country Canada subsidiary on July 31, 2026. Whether a particular order, trial return or warranty claim will be honored depends on the facts, on the obligations the purchaser assumed in the asset purchase agreement (summarized above) and on the estate's treatment of claims, which this page does not predict.

Ask for any fee to be confirmed in writing before you authorize the return.

Can I exchange a Sleep Number bed instead of returning it?
