Regional Acceptance auto loans: where to pay, get a title, claim GAP or complain, and the Truist sale (checked October 11, 2026)

Which company this is. Regional Acceptance Corporation (RAC) is a Greenville, North Carolina auto finance company. Its website says it has specialized for "over 40 years" in "indirect sub-prime and near-prime automotive financing" and also buys auto portfolios from other lenders, and describes itself as "an affiliate of Truist". Most borrowers did not apply to RAC directly: a dealer arranged the loan and assigned the contract to RAC, or an earlier lender sold the account to RAC. RAC's own FAQ says an account "being sold to us is a common transaction in the industry" and that "all the terms and conditions of the Retail Installment Contract you signed remain the same".

Sale announced by Truist (September 15, 2026). In a Form 8-K exhibit dated September 15, 2026 Truist wrote that it "entered into an agreement to sell $5.5B of auto loans representing substantially all assets of Regional Acceptance Corporation (RAC)", with "closing anticipated in late 3Q26 or early 4Q26, subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions". The exhibit does not name the buyer or say who will service the loans. Press reports (Bloomberg, relayed by VIN News on September 17 and by Repo Buzz on October 9, 2026) name Apollo Global Management, citing unnamed people familiar with the deal; Repo Buzz calls this unconfirmed. The RAC website pages opened for this page on October 11, 2026 (home, About Us, Payment Options, Manage My Account, Contact Us) did not mention the sale. If your loan is transferred, look for a written notice from the new owner or servicer about where to send payments; until you receive one, keep using the payment channels below and keep your payment confirmations.

Pay, get an account answer or reach a person. The company's Contact Us page lists 877-722-7299 for "24/7 automated assistance" (pay by phone or get account information) and for a representative Monday through Thursday 8 am to 12 am ET, Friday 8 am to 8 pm ET and Saturday 8 am to 1 pm ET, closed Sunday. Customer service is listed at 866-644-7687 (Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm ET), insurance claims at 866-447-8072 and the bankruptcy department at 800-993-1858. The Payment Options page lists the RAC Auto app, a payment portal, Auto Pay, phone, mail, Western Union and MoneyGram, and calls Auto Pay "no-fee" ("There's no charge to set up or use Auto Pay"); for MoneyGram and Western Union it says "Third-party fees apply". The page does not state a fee policy for every other channel, so ask the company before paying by a channel whose fee is not stated. Monthly mailed payments go to PO Box 580075, Charlotte, NC 28258-0075; the page says to include the 10-digit account number and not to send cash.

Payoff, title and lien release. The company says there are "no penalties" for early payoff. Its FAQ says the lien is released within 2 business days of certified-funds payoff and in about 10 business days for non-certified funds, that a state with electronic titles releases the lien electronically, and that title or lien-release requests go to [email protected], fax 866-611-0993, or Regional Acceptance Corporation, Attn: Document Control, 1424 E Fire Tower Rd., Greenville, NC 27858. It also says the account status is reported to the credit bureaus on the first of the month after payoff.

Where to send a payoff, a title request or insurance loss payments. The Payment Options page says to "use the appropriate address for your chosen delivery method" for a payoff: USPS to Regional Acceptance Corporation, PO Box 580306, Charlotte, NC 28258-0075, or express (overnight) to Regional Acceptance Corporation, Attn: 580306, 5130 Parkway Plaza Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28217. This is a different box from the one for monthly mailed payments (PO Box 580075). The company's Important Addresses page lists a title-request address for customers and payoff parties (Attn: Lien Release Team, PO Box 1290, Whiteville, NC 28472) and an insurance loss payee (lienholder) address (Attn: Insurance Loss Payee, PO Box 2430, Sioux City, IA 51106). Check the current page before mailing anything, because the sale described below may change these addresses.

Insurance, total loss and GAP. The company says "Comprehensive and collision coverage must be maintained" and that after a total loss the borrower remains responsible for monthly payments until paid in full; claims and GAP questions go to 866-447-8072. Its FAQ says GAP coverage and vehicle service contracts "are canceled by the administrator of the policy, the selling dealer" and that the borrower must help the claims representative obtain the documents the GAP administrator requires.

Disputing credit reporting and other rights. The company's FAQ says to dispute a mark on a credit report by mailing a written dispute to Regional Acceptance Corporation, Attention: CDV Analyst, 1424 East Fire Tower Road, Greenville, NC 27858. For military borrowers it lists an SCRA written request with a copy of activation orders (fax 888-761-8685, [email protected], or mail to Attention: SCRA at the Greenville address). On information sharing it says that "As an affiliate of Truist, we may share limited information within the Truist corporate family" and "To limit sharing, call Truist at 888-800-3420". On accounts it acquires from other lenders, its FAQ says "Payments made to your previous lender will be forwarded to us"; that sentence describes accounts RAC buys and is not a statement about the Truist sale. The CFPB says that if you believe a repossession was an error you should contact the lender or servicer immediately and, if that fails, you can submit a CFPB complaint or pursue legal action, that you have the right to be notified before the vehicle is sold, and that some states let you cure or reinstate the loan after repossession.

Where to complain outside the company. The CFPB complaint form (consumerfinance.gov/complaint) accepts complaints about financial products and services; the CFPB says you generally cannot submit a second complaint about the same problem, so include dates, account details and copies. Your state attorney general or consumer protection office is another route. The company's footer lists Virginia State Corporation Commission licence CFI-232, South Carolina and Illinois licences and a Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services licence; check your own state regulator for its complaint process.

Regulator record and licences

No enforcement action located. A title search of the CFPB enforcement actions list for "Regional Acceptance" returned no results when opened on October 11, 2026, and web searches that day for consent orders, settlements or attorney general actions naming Regional Acceptance Corporation returned none. State banking and attorney general databases were not searched one by one, so this is a statement about the sources checked, not a statement that no action exists anywhere.

Licences the company publishes. Its website footer lists NMLS Consumer Access ID 1104859, South Carolina licence SL-1104859, Illinois sales finance and consumer installment licences, a Michigan regulatory loan licence (RL-0020850, "effective April 7, 2017") and "licensed by the Virginia State Corporation Commission. CFI-232". It also states "Regional Acceptance Corporation is an affiliate of Truist Bank, member FDIC." These are the company's own statements; licence status in a given state is shown on that state's regulator website.

Who Regional Acceptance Corporation is and the Truist sale

Corporate identity. The North Carolina Secretary of State lists Regional Acceptance Corporation (SOSID 0123142) as "Current-Active", date formed April 26, 1978, with its principal office at 1424 East Fire Tower Road, Greenville, NC 27858. The BBB data for the same business show an incorporation date of September 24, 1968 and a business-start date of January 1, 1872. RAC's own About Us page links 1872 to Truist: "Building on a tradition of excellence in community banking that stretches back to 1872, we share Truist's mission"; this page does not choose between the BBB dates and the North Carolina record. The BBB profile text says Regional Acceptance "is an affilate of BB&T"; the company's own pages now say Truist.

Operations (company statements). The About Us page says the company has "12 regional business centers and four customer service centers serving 42 states". A separate North Carolina record, BB&T Auto Finance Corporation, at the same Greenville address is shown as dissolved; it is a different registration.

Sale and layoffs. Truist says the loans it is selling represent "substantially all assets" of RAC, that RAC was "approximately breakeven" in pre-tax earnings for the six months ended June 30, 2026, and that the sale exits "non-core, less profitable near prime auto lending" (an exhibit furnished with its September 15, 2026 Form 8-K, which says the exhibit is not deemed "filed"). The North Carolina Department of Commerce WARN Summary List for 2026 shows two notices from Regional Acceptance Corporation, both dated and received September 15, 2026, both typed "Closure" and "Permanent", both in Pitt County: notice 202600050, 156 workers affected at 266 Beacon Drive, Winterville, with an effective date of 2/28/2027, and notice 202600051, 97 workers affected at 1424 East Fire Tower Road, Greenville, with an effective date of 7/31/2027. Spectrum News reported on September 18, 2026 that layoffs would start November 30 and end by July 31, 2027, and quoted a Truist spokesperson on severance and job-search help; the NC list does not show the November 30 date. A press report (Hoodline, September 17, 2026) also describes a Texas notice for Arlington; this page could not open the Texas Workforce Commission list (blocked from this location) and does not state the Texas figure. None of these sources says what happens to borrowers or servicing. This page has not seen a closing announcement as of October 11, 2026.

Complaint figures as displayed on October 11, 2026, and this site's posts

CFPB Consumer Complaint Database (queried October 11, 2026). A search of the company field for "Regional Acceptance" returned 0 complaints, and a search of all fields for the same text also returned 0. The database lists "TRUIST FINANCIAL CORPORATION" as a separate company name; this page does not know whether complaints about RAC loans are filed under it and does not present any Truist figure as RAC's. The CFPB does not verify the accounts, and none of these numbers is combined with any other figure.

BBB (as displayed on October 11, 2026). The BBB profile for Regional Acceptance Corporation, Greenville, NC (BBB of Eastern Carolinas) shows "NOT BBB Accredited" with a letter rating of A+. The profile carries a "View Headquarters" link to the BBB profile of Truist Bank, Charlotte, NC. The complaints tab of the Greenville profile shows "3,400 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "821 complaints filed in the last 12 months" and lists no individual complaints ("There are no matching results"); the complaints tab of the Truist Bank headquarters profile shows the identical two totals. This page therefore treats those totals as the Truist Bank headquarters profile's figures shown on a branch profile, not as a count of complaints about Regional Acceptance Corporation, and does not repeat BBB's review score for the same reason. BBB says customer reviews "are not used in the calculation of the BBB Letter Grade Rating"; whether the A+ letter is calculated for this branch record or inherited from the headquarters record was not verified.

Trustpilot (as displayed on October 11, 2026). The unclaimed Trustpilot page for regionalacceptance.com shows 1.8 out of 5 from 20 reviews and the notice "No history of asking for reviews"; Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews, so the score may not be representative.

This site's own posts. usacomplaints.com holds 29 approved complaints naming Regional Acceptance as the company, written between January 2003 and April 2011, and one more post about another company (a GAP claim, JM&A Group) that names Regional Acceptance as the lender. The posts are consumer allegations and are not verified; they are older than the sale news and the current channels above. Keyword counts across the 29 posts, not a classification of what happened: Mentions late fees, added interest or late payments: 11; Mentions collection calls, threats or harassment: 10; Mentions insurance on the vehicle: 7; Mentions the loan rate, a payoff or the maturity date: 7; Mentions repossession: 5.

Subjects that recur in the posts include a payment date or amount the writer disputes, interest or fees the writer says were added, insurance the writer says was added although coverage was in place, calls to the writer or to others, and a repossession; several writers say their loan had been sold to RAC by an earlier lender. Each post is one person's account of one account.

Court record: individual consumer suits

Court record. Individual consumer suits against Regional Acceptance Corporation appear in federal court; a docket shows filings, not the truth of a party's allegations. Two 2025-2026 dockets are listed below. In Willcot v. Regional Acceptance Corporation (D. Or., No. 3:25-cv-02111-AB) the court ruled on June 11, 2026 on motions to dismiss and for judgment on the pleadings; the docket (CourtListener, opened October 11, 2026) then shows an amended complaint on July 10, 2026, an entry labelled "Dismiss" on August 18, 2026 (ECF 41; the index does not name the movant), responses in opposition on September 11 and replies on September 25, 2026, and no ruling after the June order as of that date.

Lucas v. Regional Acceptance Corporation. A self-represented plaintiff sued Regional Acceptance Corporation, Experian Information Solutions, Inc. and Truist Bank N.A. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina (No. 3:26-cv-00090, complaint filed February 3, 2026). The complaint form lists the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Truth in Lending Act as the federal statutes at issue, and its stated claim concerns the credit reporting of an auto-loan account. The docket shows an amended complaint on September 2, 2026 (ECF 23), an entry labelled "Dismiss/Failure to State a Claim" the same day (ECF 20) and responses on September 29, 2026; this page saw no ruling on that motion as of October 11, 2026.

Earlier ruling, same company. In Wiley v. Regional Acceptance Corporation (D. Md., No. 8:14-cv-02709, memorandum opinion of May 4, 2015) the court granted in part and denied in part the company's motion to dismiss a putative class complaint over repossession and sale notices on a car repossessed in 2013, allowing claims about a private sale and the post-sale accounting to proceed. This page did not locate the case's final outcome.

Is Regional Acceptance Legitimate?

Regional Acceptance Corporation is registered with the North Carolina Secretary of State as a current, active domestic corporation, publishes NMLS and state licence references on its website, and states that it is an affiliate of Truist Bank, member FDIC. An exhibit furnished with Truist's September 15, 2026 Form 8-K describes an agreement to sell the company's loan portfolio, with closing anticipated in late third or early fourth quarter 2026. The BBB profile is not accredited and shows an A+ letter rating, and its complaint totals are those of the linked Truist Bank headquarters profile (see the complaint section); the CFPB database shows no entries under the name; Trustpilot shows 1.8 from 20 reviews. These are separate sources with their own methods and are not added together. This page offers no rating or verdict; it lists the company's own channels and the public record so readers can compare them with their own experience.

Willcot v. Regional Acceptance Corporation (RAC) and iA American Warranty Corp. (individual consumer suit over a GAP claim and credit reporting)
Docket 3:25-cv-02111-AB
U.S. District Court, District of Oregon—FiledFiled — no final outcome recorded

The self-represented plaintiff alleged that RAC violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. 1681s-2(b)), Oregon's GAP statute (ORS 646A.779) and the Unlawful Trade Practices Act, and breached the contract, after a GAP payout on a totaled car left a balance and RAC reported the account 30 days delinquent. In its Opinion & Order of June 11, 2026 the court granted iA American Warranty Corp.'s motion to dismiss, and granted in part and denied in part RAC's motion for judgment on the pleadings: "Plaintiff's FCRA claim is not dismissed", the GAP-statute claim and most trade-practices and contract claims were dismissed with leave to amend, the unjust-enrichment claim was dismissed without leave to amend, and the good-faith claim was not dismissed as to the credit allegations. The plaintiff was given 30 days to file an amended complaint, and the CourtListener docket (opened 2026-10-11) shows an amended complaint on July 10, 2026 (ECF 32), an entry labelled "Dismiss" on August 18, 2026 (ECF 41; the index does not name the movant), responses in opposition on September 11 and replies on September 25, 2026, with no ruling after the June order as of October 11, 2026. The docket's first entries (the complaint and filing application) are dated November 14, 2025. The order is a ruling on pleadings; it does not decide whether the allegations are true.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Regional Acceptance being sold, and who will service my loan?

Truist's Form 8-K exhibit of September 15, 2026 says it "entered into an agreement to sell $5.5B of auto loans representing substantially all assets of Regional Acceptance Corporation (RAC)" with closing "anticipated in late 3Q26 or early 4Q26". The exhibit names no buyer and no servicer; press reports name Apollo Global Management, citing unnamed sources, which Repo Buzz calls unconfirmed. The company's website pages read on October 11, 2026 did not announce the sale, so keep using the payment channels on its Payment Options page until you receive written notice of a change.

How do I pay Regional Acceptance, and are there fees?

The company's Payment Options page lists the RAC Auto app, a payment portal, Auto Pay, phone (877-722-7299 automated, 866-259-5318 for an associate), mail (monthly payments) to PO Box 580075, Charlotte, NC 28258-0075, and Western Union or MoneyGram (receive code 2731 for MoneyGram and REGA, NC for Western Union). It calls Auto Pay "no-fee" ("There's no charge to set up or use Auto Pay") and says "Third-party fees apply" to MoneyGram and Western Union; it does not state a fee policy for the other channels. It also says payments cannot be made at a Truist bank branch. Payoff amounts go to a different address (USPS PO Box 580306, Charlotte, NC 28258-0075, or Attn: 580306, 5130 Parkway Plaza Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28217); PO Box 580075 is for monthly mailed payments.

How do I get my title or lien release after paying off a Regional Acceptance loan?

The company's FAQ says it releases the lien within 2 business days if the payoff was made with certified funds and in approximately 10 business days if not, and that, if the state provided a paper title, "the notarized title with the lien released will be mailed to the address indicated at the time of payoff or the primary address on file" (in lien-statement states, a notarized lien release only), while electronic titles are released electronically. Requests for a duplicate title or lien release go to [email protected], fax 866-611-0993, or Attn: Document Control, 1424 E Fire Tower Rd., Greenville, NC 27858; the Important Addresses page also lists a title-request address (Attn: Lien Release Team, PO Box 1290, Whiteville, NC 28472). Take any paper title or lien release to your state titling office so the state records the release.

What does Regional Acceptance say about insurance, total loss and GAP claims?

Its FAQ says "Comprehensive and collision coverage must be maintained on your vehicle", that borrowers "are responsible for making their monthly payments until their accounts are paid in full" after a total loss, and that claims and GAP questions go to 866-447-8072. It says GAP coverage and vehicle service contracts are cancelled "by the administrator of the policy, the selling dealer". A federal court order of June 11, 2026 in an individual consumer suit shows a dispute over the vehicle value used for a GAP payout; see the court record on this page.

How do I dispute credit reporting by Regional Acceptance?

The company's FAQ says to "mail your dispute in writing" to Regional Acceptance Corporation, Attention: CDV Analyst, 1424 East Fire Tower Road, Greenville, NC 27858. The CFPB complaint page says that for a complaint against a credit or consumer reporting agency about inaccurate or incomplete information you are required by law to dispute directly with that agency first (15 U.S.C. 1681i(a) and (e)); it links a how-to-dispute page for that step.

Does the CFPB database list complaints about Regional Acceptance?

A company-field search for "Regional Acceptance" and an all-fields search for the same text both returned 0 complaints when run on October 11, 2026. The CFPB complaint page says it accepts complaints about financial products and services, sends them to the company and lets you check status online. Complaints may be filed under a different company name, which this page cannot confirm.

What does BBB show for Regional Acceptance Corporation?

BBB's page for Regional Acceptance Corporation at 1424 E Fire Tower Rd, Greenville, NC, read on October 11, 2026, says the business is "NOT BBB Accredited" and carries an A+ letter rating. The profile links to the BBB profile of Truist Bank as its headquarters, and the complaint totals on its complaints tab (3,400 in the last 3 years, 821 in the last 12 months) are identical to the totals on the Truist Bank profile, with no individual complaints listed for the Greenville profile; this page does not present them as Regional Acceptance's own. BBB adds that customer reviews "are not used in the calculation of the BBB Letter Grade Rating".

What are my rights if Regional Acceptance repossesses my car?

The CFPB says that auto loan servicers "must ensure that every repossession is lawful", that you should contact the lender or servicer at once if you think a repossession was an error, and that you can submit a complaint or pursue legal action. It says you have the right to be notified before the vehicle is sold, may be able to buy it back by paying the full loan amount plus repossession costs before the sale, and that some states allow you to cure or reinstate the loan. Rules vary by state; the CFPB page names your state attorney general or consumer protection office for state questions.

Who owns Regional Acceptance Corporation?

The company's website says it is "an affiliate of Truist" and that "Regional Acceptance Corporation is an affiliate of Truist Bank, member FDIC". An exhibit furnished with Truist's September 15, 2026 Form 8-K describes an agreement to sell loans that represent substantially all of the company's assets; it does not say that the corporation itself is being sold or name a purchaser. The BBB profile still describes it as an affiliate of BB&T.
