I did all the internet research and went through all the steps to pick a car and get price quotes from dealers. I received a few email quotes, and McCarthy Olathe Hyundai was the best price. We drove two hours to the dealership, and were told that the vehicle in the quote was no longer available. They tried selling us a more expensive 6 cylinder, but we said we wanted a 4 cylinder as in the quote. The salesman took the email quote to his manager and came back saying they wanted $3,000 more than the email quote. The salesman couldn't explain it, and said the car I was wanting to buy was the same model, options and equipment as the email quote, but his manager was only willing to sell at this higher price.
We waited to talk to Jay, the sales manager, who told us they only had one car like this, and that his offer price was this new higher price. I said I wanted him to stand by their email quote, and he said he could sell the car for whatever price he wanted, that is why they put the disclaimer on the quote.
The disclaimer says 'We reserve the right to modify this quote to correct arithmetic errors.incentive and pricing programs are subject to change by Hyundai without notice. We will notify you promptly if any incentive or pricing programs or other terms change.' There were no arithmetic errors, Hyundai had the same rebate, and we had not been notified of any change.
Their website says 'get a quote' and the email said it was a quote. But we couldn't buy a car for the quoted price. It seems they sent a low price in the email quote to get us to the showroom so they could try to sell us a more expensive car.
The next day I checked their online inventory and Edmunds inventory, and both web inventories said McCarthy Hyundai had 30 cars that met my criteria.
