Am I being ripped-off?

I have a question regarding a recent interaction at Monro Muffler. I am not yet willing to make any claims or accusations without further information.

I recently received a coupon in the mail for a 15.99 oil change at Monro. As it was time for me anyway, I went for the change with the coupon. I dropped off, was told it would be a few hours. So I left to do some other errands.

An hour later, I get a call stating the following: My brakes were at 4/32 and the rotors had "hot spots", my power steering fluid was like "mud", and that the link pin on the front of the car was "wearing". I was specifically asked "if (i) heard any noises" coming from the front of the car. I stated that I had not heard any noises at all, including on the trip down for the oil change. After being quoted some prices, I declined any additional work, and just authorized the oil change.

About an hour later I pick up the car, note the receipt, and drive away. Lo and behold, there is a noise coming from the front of my car (which sounds like a whirring or shaking noise, increasing as I accelerate) although the car feels stable.

After some deliberation, I call Monro back to speak with the person who checked me in. After being on hold for 5 minutes (during which time i was compelled to physically present myself back at the shop), the person answers. I tell him that I am pretty angry, since all of a sudden there is a noise that was conveniently identified upon inspection (and that he asks me about). I ask for an explanation with accusation, and his main reply (among a few) was that maybe i was "just used to it and now i'm paying attention because it was pointed out. I thank him f0r the explanation but also that i am not satisfied with the ones he gave me, and tell him that if I indeed have to have it fixed it will not be at Monro.

Given this account, two things stand out:
1. The noise WAS NOT there prior to taking it in for an oil change. I am definite on this claim, and stand behind it 100%.
2. The oil change coupon also offered wheel rotation. Is it likely that a tech would have noticed the pin during rotation. Or could the tech have been looking for something? Or, could it be likely that the rotation may have damaged the pin during extraction?

Any rebuttal/information is appreciated.
