I am now 67 with a 5 way bypass and this is the first time in my life I ever had anyone work on my vehicle. Brother, It is the last.
Called Cottman Transmission, who was bought 2 weeks ago by AAMCO, because of transmission failure. I explained to Ben that I was 67 with a 5 way bypass and that I was a Mechanic for 50 years. I told him that I had a failure that was most likely Torque converter failure as there was slippage and that it sounded as if there were 2 hand full of marbles in a dryer. I explained that the Trans 400 had been recently overhauled and the minute of the takeoff failure that I had shut it down so no dammage would occur. Ben assured me that the repairs would be in the range of 700.00 and I verified that 3 times while we were talking. I then asked if that included the Torque Converter and he said that would be extra. I agreed to the 700.00 overhaul and the Converter replacement. Converter is about 250.00.
3 days later I get a call that it is ready and they will pick me up. When I got the bill it was 1494.00 and Charges for parts that it did not need. I ask for the old parts and was told that they were not available. (Saturday? Who disposes of parts on Saturday/)
I asked for the owner's name and was given Doug Watkins name but refused me the means to contact him directly. I was told to give all information to Ben at the counter and he would forward it to the owner.
The fact I had told Ben I was a mechanic for 50 years should have been a clue that I knew what I was talking about.in fact the Torque Converter had scattered and come apart.
