Cottman rebuilt my Dodge transmission and for a period of over 60 days it continued to leak, slip and overheat. It took Five Attempt for the leak to be sealed. Other transmission shops say low levels of lubricant cause heat, friction and excessive wear. I asked Cottman at the time if this slippage and low fluid would cause premature failure, they said no. At 30k miles the torque converter failed and now needs complete rebuld, again.
Cottman offered "2nd Grade" rebuild for about $1200 and claimed it to be a discount "deal" for a repeat customer. I called another shop (I've never dealt with) and they gave me the same price, $1200. So, Cottman actually was charging me the full price and claimed it to be a discount. They charged me $250 for diagnostics and I had it towed to another transmission shop.
Although I was technically out of warranty, if Cottman had done the job properly the transmission would still be working and the parts would not have been damaged by low lubricant fluid. I did not ask for a free rebuild, only a reasonable discount for their poor workmanship.
