My car was drive-able but the transmission would slip out of gear. I took it to Mr. Transmission and after only a test drive he told me that for certain my torque converter was shot and in need of replacement and there was without a doubt a mechanical problem with my transmission, he clearly said and made sure I knew that the problem was NOT electrical, it was mechanical.
I was told that they would need to take out the transmission and take it apart to see what the problem was, that would be $400 total for the labor and the torque converter would run me several hundred dollars to replace. So for $400 several hundred dollars I would have a new converter and a broken transmission that still needed to be fixed. I left and got a second opinion.
I went to Valdosta Transmission (if you're near Valdosta, go here), they kept my car for an hour and ran a test on it. I came back and they said I had bad solenoids and my transmission was in perfect working order. He quoted me $300 to fix it. I figured that $300 here was better than $1000 and no fix at Mr. Transmission. He fixed it for $294, gave me a year warranty on the parts, and guess what? No slippage, no loud roars coming from being in the wrong gear, it runs better than the day I bought it.
I'm glad that I got a second opinion. I'm even more glad that I did not use Mr. Transmission.
