Cottman Transmission
Bad repair job Ripoff

I've had and still have a problem with the flywheel grinding when I try to start my Ford Contour. Since the flywheel is located so close to the transmission, I decided to take it to Cottman transmission because they remove and replace transmissions all the time. Very bad choice.

First, they quoted a price of 500 dollars and told me it would be done on Saturday, the next day.

On Saturday, Nick called to tell me the price had changed. Now, it would be 655 dollars due to the cost of the part. I didn't like their changing, because it makes me think they were lying originally and trying to get more money out of me. I agreed because I needed the car and didn't know what else to do.

The car wasn't finished until the following Thursday. I told Johnathon that I was very angry because I had to miss work. Even after paying for the repairs he refused to let me have the car until I signed his work order. I felt I was being forced to sign for something so he could cover himself legally. He knew he had tricked me by giving me an oral estimate and then changing. He had a temper tantrum and called me 'crazy.' I found his weird display to be frightening.

After three miles on the road, the car started not shifting correctly. I had to towe it back to them. They said that some wires were exposed. A speed sensing wire. They wrapped those wires. I drove away. Only a few miles later and the check engine light came on. I took it back to them and they said it read out oxygen sensors. Since I had had all four oxygen sensors replaced, I asked them to dump the code out of the computer and I would pick up my car. A day later they still hadn't done that so I got my car anyway. A few miles later at the doctor's office, my car started acting up in a different way. I called a mobile mechanic who had worked for me before. He found a hose that had a hole in it that hadn't been there before and fixed it. Meanwhile, when I picked it up before this last repair, the same grinding noise occurred again. Since I would be late for a doctor's appointment, I took the car anyway.

This is the same grinding noise on starting that I took it in to be repaired and they said they fixed it. I am afraid to go back there because I feel that they will twist my words and somehow make this out to be my fault again and will do nothing to remedy the situation. Because of that, I wrote the better business bureau regarding them. I haven't heard anything from them. My car is still intermittently doing exactly the same thing it was when I took it to them. I have read several of the reports on this website regarding Cottman Transmission. That is why I have come to the conclusion that they won't do anything to fix the problem. I thought about taking them to small claims court. I have never done this before, but these people seem really terrible the way they have treated many people before me. Any advice in the matter would be appreciated. Sincerely, Delores
