My husband and I financed a vehicle with Fifth Third Bank two years ago. We kept the car for 13 months and traded it before the next payment was due. The dealership payed off (as they usually do when you trade) the vehicle and has already resold it.
Recently we recieved a letter saying we still owe a payment on the car. I have a copy of every check we sent to them that was cashed by them for our 13 payments. We payed ALL of our payments and paid them on time.
We made a phone call to Fifth Third Bank and their answer to this so called bill "we owe" is as stated: "they made a mistake and gave us a credit for an extra payment that we did not make". They didn't catch the mistake they made until four months after we had already traded off the vehicle.
Now they are saying that WE should pay back the money that was the result of THEIR mistake. I don't think so.
