Oh, how I hope other people will read this report before they have their car worked on at this purrfect auto store! I paid 800 dollars for a job that should have cost me no more than 500, which I found out after the fact of course.
In these times we rarely have time to actually look at reports like this and we would rather just be able to trust our fellow man with his knowledge and expertise in the area where we may need help, such as a mechanic. Well, HUTCH, is the name of the manager at this particular location, actually lied right to my face and told me I could "trust" him and that he was "being honest with me".
I'll try to keep this short and easy to read. I knew my car needed the all dreaded timing belt changed, and it is a costly repair as we all know. I was told over the phone that this repair would cost me roughly 497 dollars. Sounded fair to me, since most quotes I was getting were between 400 and 600. After he had the engine torn apart he told me that I was also going to have to replace the tensioner and pulley as well, whatever that is. He said "because you drove it 10,000 miles over the recomended mileage". He told me "the part will cost 216 dollars and I will not charge a penny more for labor because we have already taken the engine apart and it simply one bolt to put the new one on." Well, 216 dollars for a part sounded like alot to me, so I went down to have look at it myself. He had me on the spot and I finally got it out of him that the part was actually 196 but he had to make few bucks on the mark up. Something is sounding fishy to me at this point. HE IS STARTING TO LIE TO ME AND HOW MUCH OF THE REST OF THE STORY WAS A LIE!?
I've got my two kids with me and he has the engine torn apart and now he is telling me that the complete job is going to cost me 800 dollars. The pulley was going to be an additional 116 dollars which would not be marked up. I told him to put the car back together, that I did not trust him! Of course he tells me that he will have to charge me for all the labor. Well isn't that just handy. I've got two kids with me, ages 14 months and 3
1/2 years old, and he tell me "you can call the dealer, they will quote you the same price as me, 216 for the tensioner and 116 for the pulley, honestly, you can trust me." Now he's got me by the balls wouldn't you say. He is sure as hell not going to hand me the phone numbers for these companys to get the quotes on the parts. I tell him to go and finish the job because I'm not going to pay him to put the car back the way it was, esencially getting nothing done.
I make the calls when I get home and get the kids down for their naps and low and behold, I'm dealing with slime of the earth!!! For the 216 dollar part, cheyenne auto parts charges 63.95 (genuine dodge parts) and pickarts carquest auto parts charges 68.56 (genuine dodge parts) and another company, The Parts House, tells me " oh yeah, both peices are sold together for 144 dollars", and guess what? (genuine dodge parts). I call HUTCH to find out if the parts have been put in yet, and even though its only been an hour since I left, "oh yeah, it will be done in about half hour". I tell him the discrepincy (sp) in price and he tells me some b.S. About "them not being genuine dodge parts" or " they're after market parts", whatever jerk!
I'll end this story now, because I'm getting heated all over again! I get back to the shop and ask him what he is going to do to rectify this situation since I found out that he is robbing me blind. "NOTHING, YOU SIGNED FOR THE 800 DOLLAR AGREEMENT AND NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY IT!!!", "you don't like it, then I'll see you in court." I wish I had a case I could win in court, and these thieves count on the fact that most people do nothing about it, and you know what, they're right, because most honest people are too busy with their lives and don't have the time to deal with the wretched of the planet, cause you just bring us down!!! DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!
And one other thing, who is the wanna be beach boy posing as a shop manager, get real. My guess is that your keeping an eye on the $ coming in, what with the payment on that brand new mercedes slk500 you have. What comes around... Goes around "fellas"
