On July 21st I dropped off my 1997 Cadillac Deville to Bob Boillat (owner of Auto Expressions) to have all 4 side windows and Back window tinted.
When I picked it up later, I was a little concerned because I noticed some rippling and bubbling in most of the tint. Bob told me not to worry, that what I seeing is water and it will all evaporate by tomorrow morning. So I believed him and paid him $200.00 cash for the job. The next morning, all of what I saw yesterday had evaporated just as Bob said it would.
Then I started to notice lots of air bubbles in the side windows and the back window was covered with them. I called Bob and he told me to bring the car back to the shop and he would take care of it. I told him I would be there in a couple days.
48 hours after I picked up the car (recommended time before rolling the windows down) I rolled down all the windows, that's when I found the biggest problem. The tint on every window was cut to a different size and looked more like he ripped it rather than using a razor. Every cut was incredibly uneven. The space from the top of the glass to the tint ranges from a 1/4 inch to 1 inch.
I then brought my car back to Bob at Auto Expressions. I showed him all of my concerns. Bob was very defensive by making claims that all of what I am pointing out is perfectly normal with any tint job. (You never see perfect cuts, and there are always lots of air bubbles, you're just picky). Bob did offer to completely re-tint my car.
The next day, my friend and I looked the entire car over very well and noticed 3 razor cuts in the custom vinyl top and 1 razor cut in the rubber trim around the side window.
My car has 20,000 miles and WAS in almost perfect condition. I have estimates to re-tint, replace vinyl top and possibly replace the back window because sometimes the defrost lines get damaged when removing tint. The total is $1,600.00
I went back to Auto Expressions with all my estimates and gave Bob a chance to pay for the damages to avoid going to court. He told me he would call me by the end of the day with his decision. And of course he never called.
