Our ABS light was staying continuously on, so we decided to take it to Monro for a diagnosis and get a needed oil change. We had made appointment online, but they hadn't checked because they had no idea we were coming. That was settled and we left car there for service. We were later informed that the ABS system was broken and "hanging by a wire, " so needed replaced so it wouldn't "fall off completely" soon. Also told us that our brakes were pretty much "metal on metal, " and needed replaced as well. They said this needed to be fixed right away because if not, complete brake failure will occur and cost at least $1700 then. They told us that as a favor, they would save us some labor costs and only charge $998.00 for the repairs. We couldn't afford to commit to that payment at the time, to which they replied they have a 6-month interest-free plan. We declined and took car for to another repair shop, not mentioning anything about Monro's diagnosis. They checked it out, and told us that the front left axle of ABS sensor was cracked and it would cost $300 total to fix; brakes tested in "very good condition"— and they knew nothing about any previous diagnosis to base findings on. Now car is great and has no problems. Not cool on Monro's part. This type of behavior is what gives all car repair businesses a bad reputation.
