I knew that my car needed some repairs to the exhaust system so I took it to Monroe Muffler & Brake Service on Noblestown Road. The informed me that there was a small hole in the rear exhaust that needed repaired, the front tie rod needed replaced and that I needed a Catalytic Converter. Said it would cost about $35 to fix the hole & $212 to do the tie rod. Then they hit me with... The catalytic converter would cost at least $2100 for just the part... Then gave me a total of $2700 for parts and labor. I believe the "saw me coming"... A single woman who needed her car repaired and probably didn't know one thing about "things like that". So as soon as I got off the phone with them, I looked for the cost of the converter on the internet and found that NONE of them cost more than $800. I proceeded to call them and tell them that I didn't have enough money to have them repair it and picked my car up. I told this story to a friend of mine and they suggested another repair shop. I made an appointment with them and dropped my car off. They completed all of the repairs that Monroe said I needed, plus gave me an oil change, checked all the belts and everything under the hood, PLUS an inspection and emissions - FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF - get this - $905.00. $1,795.00 LESS THAN MONROE!!! Needless to say, I will NEVER suggest Monroe Muffler to ANYONE!
