I am trying to make a urgent wire transfer to my brother. I have been through a dozen phone trees trying to find the right person to help me. According to Citibank s website wire transfers set up before 6 pm are sent the same day. Period. I have tried to reach anyone today, one day later, to tell me the status of that transfer and NO ONE CAN. At least one Citibank employee at my branch was incredibly rude. She told me wire transfers (which I paid extra for) in this electronic age take 24 to 48 hours. This is not mentioned on their website. Keep in mind the funds were IMMEDIATELY withdrawn from my account (within seconds). The amount is 10K. So, Citibank has my money somewhere and my brother will not get it until next week. I would have achieved the same speed for the price of a stamp if I had sent him a check through the US mail. I think Citibank is pooling my money to catch as few days of interest and the passing it on to its intended beneficiary. I am most upset that this transaction actually cost me money, that phone trees have replaced customer service and then, when you actually reach people they either do not know how to manage simple problems or they deflect your frustration with being rude. I have been a Citibank customer for 30 plus years and am planning, today, to move my money. Garbage. Customer service across the board has declined. If I treated my patients like Citibank has treated me, I would not have any. I will now pursue a smaller bank whose best interest is thier clients. THINK HARD AND LONG before you put your money in this institution.
