Www.freecreditreport.com sounds pretty doesn't it. The television ads seem nice. Wrong! Though they do provide you with an acurate report of your credit there is fees involved. A one time $79.99 fee every year. You do have to read the fine print to catch this.
I did know of this fee, but cancelling the subscription was much harder than you think. I called the 1-888 number and after a quick menu and voice recorded message saying how good the subscription is I got a person to ask to cancel my report.
Now, normally, when you call to cancel a service of some kind the person will ask if you disliked the service or offer you a better deal and then move on to cancelling. I spent 10 minutes listening to how good the credit report was and I repeated myself several times saying all I want to do is cancel. Things quickly went down hill as it became a shouting match between me and the person on the other line.
I told him that all I want for him to say is he is cancelling it now. He then got snippy with me saying I am putting words into his mouth. True, but he is going to say it because that is what he is going to do. After a quick moment on hold he said that it was cancelled and that I should receive a refund 7-10 working days.
I probably won't see that refund, but I was working towards not getting charge $79.99 a year in 2005. If you need a credit report, pay the fee nominal fee from you credit card provider. Don't get suckered!
