Freecreditreport.com is first of all not free so therefore it should not be called freecreditreport.com. It does state that after the first 7 days you will be billed for continuous credit monitoring.
After having the service for a few months, I realized that the service was sort of useless. You can get actually free copies of your credit report once a year from each of the three credit monitoring companies: Equifax, Transunion, and Experian. I decided that I wanted to cancel my subscription, so I called to cancel.
The first thing that really bothered me about the phone service is that I had to give my social security number over the phone in order for them to access my account. Being someone who decided I wanted to monitor my credit, I am very paranoid about giving my social security number to anyone, especially over the phone. I figured I really wanted to get rid of this service, so I decided giving it once is okay.
However, after this call, I was not confident that my account was closed because the customer service person kept saying that I should keep my account open until the billing cycle ends. What she actually meant was she was going to not cancel my account ever. I called back a few hours later because I was confused and requested that my account be canceled and the woman who helped me that time said and did the same thing. She insisted my account was canceled and I will not be getting any more billings. However I got billed.
When I called the third time to cancel my account, I was finally able to cancel my account. For a service that is supposed to be helping me watch out for identity theft I honestly feel more scared about my identity being stolen now that I've had to give my social security number over the phone three separate times in order to try to cancel this service. This company is not trustworthy and is not true to their word. The very basis of their company - the company name, is a lie. Save yourself the trouble and stress and go with another company if you want to monitor your credit.
