I have been a customer at Comerica Bank for 8 years and I have noticed that their customer service over the last two years has been lacking.
Recently, in the month of November, I incurred 7 overdraft fees through mixed use of my debit card and checks that were cashed. Apparently one $30 check was cashed when there was $22 in the account that created a snowball effect of overdrafts, where the overdraft fees were in fact causing overdrafts. For an overdraft of $8, $259 (7 x $37) is a lot to pay.
I contacted Mike DeMartalaere, who works at the downtown Lansing branch who said "unfortunately there is nothing I can do for you". I asked if a portion could be reversed because the bank seemed to make a lot of revenue off of an $8 mistake, and he wouldn't budge. He seemed unconcerned at my decision to move my accounts from the bank. Hey, checking account are just "filler" for banks and don't generate a lot of profit, unless you are charging exponential overdraft fees. I get it. No need to be greedy about it.
Thanks for reading, do not bank at Comerica!
