On Friday August 7 I loaded $500.00 onto my prepaid greendot Master Card. I hadn't used the card in a while and I did not realize the card expired June.
I called greendot Saturday morning and explained the situation. I asked to be given a current expiration date for the existing card. I was told I would get a refund in 7-10 days. I informed the clerk this was not acceptable. After repeatedly insisting this was not acceptable to me because I needed access to MY money the clerk informed me she would put in a request to processing for a new card and have the card Fed Ex to me at my expense on Monday August 10.
I call greendot this morning and they have no record of the call despite me giving them a reference number. I insisted on speaking to a supervisor and after a considerable amount of time on hold I spoke to a supervisor. I inisted that I needed access to MY money immediately. Supervisor gave me the "run around". Finally the supervisor agreed to issue a refund check and send it Fed Ex and I should have a check my Thursday.
I asked why the system allowed loading on an expired card. Supervisor gave some lame excuse about the system can't tell the difference between a merchant transaction and an expired card. Sounds like a lot of nonsense to me. Greendot has my money and would be keeping it for 7-10 days if I hadn't insisted on getting MY money immediately. Fed ex will take up to 3 business days, that sounds bogus too. What happened to overnight?
I want to know if there is the possibility of a class action lawsuit against greendot? How many other people have had THEIR money held up because of this scam. I will never use greendot again and I will discourage anyone I know from ever using greendot.
