I overpaid my total outstanding balance with Capital One. My online payment on June 1, for $805.81 did not show on the screen. So, I resubmitted the payment later that day. I called 1-800-956-44442 that same day to check the payments posted and informed "Monica, " the customer rep, of my mistake. I told her I never intended to pay twice the total amount I owed. She told me that neither payment showed on the system. On June 3rd, only one amount was posted to my back account. On June 4th the second payment was posted to my bank account.
It was not until June 5th that I realized the second payment had been posted to my bank account and called Capital One once again. I spoke to "Brad", Account Manager, who told me that because my payments were "voluntary" it didn't matter that they exceeded my outstanding balance. That I would have to wait for a refund to be mailed to my address in 10 to 20 business days. I explained to him that my bank account balance would go down to zero and that I never intended to pay Capital One for more money than what I owed them.in the end, Capital One dishonestly charged twice the amount that was owed for my balance. My checking account balance is $18 as of June 6th.
I believe this is fraud because they had knowledge that a second payment for the total outstanding balance was submitted due to failure in their system to show the first payment. Furthermore, they were informed of the error on the same day the payments were made. Then, they refused to cancel the second payment and appropriated money that does not belong to them. My checking account balance has been charged a total of $1611.62. Only $805.81 belong to them. As a result the balance on my bank account is $18. I can't take my cats to the vet and I will have to borrow an extra $100 from friends because of Capital One unethical business practice and misappropriation of my money.
