I am writing this letter to on behalf of my father in referance to his account with Citizens bank.
Today, my father and I went into one of Citizens Bank branch offices. We spoke with a young woman, a employee of Citizens Bank in Albany NY, about the fee (s) and charges on his account, Due to a $ 6.00 error on his account, these "bank fees" where approx. $148.00. Her explaination of the situation was very suspect, I do not think she was beleiving what she was telling us! She also spoke with the branch manager and he was absolulty no help what so ever, completly useless.
Their answer was "well that's our policy and the other banks do it too"!!! I think it is OUTRAGOUS that due what is now a $7.00 error in his account to date, they have now charged approx. Over $201.00 dollars in fees!!! This has all occured over a 1 week period. Are they kidding with this, how can this be legal, they are stealing money out of peoples accounts, then threating to turn you into ChekSystems, rendering you unable to open a bank account in your life until you pay them these crazy madeup fees. This is extortion!!!
My father is 66 years old and living on a fixed income. He was out of town for the past week and was unware of this until he returned home. He was willing to bring the account to a positive balance and pay 1 fee for the mistake, but they have so many charges for this one mistake and it is growing at a rapid rate. He also tried to close the account and was told he had to pay you this ridiculous money or he could not close the account. He will now inccur a fee of 35.00 for every 4 days that the account has a negative balance.
My father and I have decided to contact an attorney and the State Banking Dept. To file a complaint. I will also be e-mailing a letter to every person I can find in the Capitol District, via multiple search engines and sites like this one.
This is robbery plain and simple, I do not see how Citizens Bank or anyother bank for that matter feels justified in just helping themselves to other peoples money, then hiding behind a canned statement "well, that's our policy". If that is your policy, why not print it on the front door or the teller windows at your locations? Well, I think everyone in their customer base needs to know this. This is so outragous and I have to say it is just another act of arrogant banking practices, the same banks that have caused the mortgage mess our nation now faces today. Bank make you feel like they are doing you a favor for having your money n their bank, should it not be the other way around??
