I own a Sears Washer that broke down. Sears messed up the warranty so I paid the repair person by check in order to get the job done. Sears eventually took care of their error - within an hour of the repair.
They told me specifically to call the repair service to tear up the check AND to put a Stop Payment on the check as well. I did both.
Within 2 weeks I received my first of (thus far) four threatening letters from Certegy Payment Recovery Service. I replied with an expanation immediately as I KNEW they could take care of the issue within an hour if they actually wanted to with just a phone call.
They have sent me a letter every month for 4 months now threatening to ruin my credit etc. I called after the 3rd letter and got the "we can't do anything about it unless Sears calls us and retracts". Seems like this should be their job.
