I received a letter from AFNI collections saying I owed $144.51 for an unpaid Verizon Communications bill formerly GTE. When I attempted to contact them all I got from 2 different numbers 866-308-1160 and 866-352-0479 was that due to high call volume they could not speak with me and to try later, then I was disconnected. Upon further research I was able to locate a valid number for more recent billing inquiries which was 866-352-0471, their hours are 7am-9pm m-thurs and 7am-8pm friday. If you cant get through on another number try this number, they will internally transfer you and you will be able to speak with a representative.

Of course when I spoke with them they are trying to collect on a debt from 1991. I paid this 16 years ago but who keeps bank statements that long ago, I doubt my financial institution can even pull anything up, especially when I dont know the exact amount of the payment and what the date of it was. When I informed them of California law stating that the statue of limitations was long since expired, the rep responded by saying she understood they couldnt put this on my credit report but until I submit a letter in writing informing them to stop harrassing me they are within the law. Then they can sell the account to someone else and they can start harrassing me.

I filed a complaint with the California Attorney General's office, maybe they can get through to this company. If anybody wants to file a class action lawsuit, please include me on your list.
