Ignored requests to close account Ripoff Portland Nationwide

After the merger of TD banknorth and Husdon bank, I requested that the account be closed via-e-mail. Response was to call the customer care center. I called and the service rep took the info and said it will be closed in 2 business days. I forgot I still had a auto debit of $7.95 which was done in that 2 day period. A 35 dollar overdraft fee was charged. AFter receiving the notice via snail-mail I went to the branch to pay, but by time the payment was posted another fee of 35.00 was charged. I told the bank the situation and they said they cannot now close the account because of a negative balance. I said this is ridiculous, please close the account, they said pay the fee and we will gladly close the account. This went on and on for awhile and low and behold after 335.00 in overdraft fees they closed the account without my request. Now the account is in collection and they called asking how I would like to pay, by check over the phone, CC, My response was "Nothing", your error you fix it. The collection agent became aggresive and told me my name will go into the national registry and I will not be able to open another checking account anywhere, I said fine at my age I do not need anymore accounts, and if you are so concerned about my welfare, you personally should pay the charge. Put it in my credit file which has an above average report and I will place a rebuttal.

Do not let these big banks bully you around, stay with the smaller local banks, they are more friendly and responsive to you needs.
