I noticed from my "free" online banking with TD Banknorth that my savings account had been charged a $4 fee. Since I had recently received a $10 gift card from TD Banknorth with an explanation that one of my accounts had "accidently" been charged a $4 fee I thought this was the error which it related to. I sent an email to the online customer service and was told that this was the fee for having a savings account with a balance under $250! The message also went on to explain that the "changes" had been sent to me in the mail in May. I don't make a habit of viewing all the JUNK MAIL that comes in my mail.
As I stated in the heading, I was charged $15 for my new "cadillac" checking account. Nothing had changed that I could see; only the fact that now my "Simply Free Checking" now cost me $15 per MONTH..
I entered the TD Banknorth branch closest to where I work and closed my savings account. I attempted to close my checking account but there were "pending transactions" which prevented the closing of my account.
I took my $100 from my savings along with my paycheck and marched over to Bangor Federal Credit Union and was impressed with the fact that I was told "No undisclosed fees, ever" I opened my NEW savings account (pays a little higher interest) and my NEW checking account and left with a NEW debit/Visa card and a BIG SMILE ON MY FACE.
I don't know what the execs at TD Banknorth were thinking but I have been banking with this company since the '90's.
I now have until August 22nd to close out my checking account to avoid the $15 A MONTH CHECKING ACCOUNT FEE! Oh, the really good part was that I was told that if I wanted a DIFFERENT CHECKING ACCOUNT it would only cost me $3 PER MONTH. If that's the case why was I charged $15???
I will be going NEXT MONDAY to close out my checking and NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN!
