Last November, Cross Country allowed Danielle S. Smith of Illinois to obtain a credit card using my social security number. When I discovered this (by attempting to pay my bill on line - for which Cross Country Bank levies a $3 payment charge!) I called the company and was told it was an on line demonstration only. Then I started getting Emails addressed to Danielle!
Then next month her info was still there and I was listed as having multiple accounts. I started calling the company and complaining and have gotten a wonderful run around since.
I have written, called, fumed and fussed and was finally told last week that they didn't know who I was. I asked if Danielle was using my mother's maiden name, my address, etc. They said they had no proof of my social security # validity. I faxed it to them within an hour.
Saturday, I received a call from Patricia at 561 982-9111, ext 50253, (in "security") who, poor thing, kept putting me on lengthy, ad-infested holds while she consulted with her supervisor Michele Morris.
Their only action was to insist that I call the Social Security Administration and work with that agency. Cross Country wants a letter from Social Security proving I am who I am. Meanwhile, they say that months ago they requested a copy of Danielle's social security card wih no results. I have already called social security before this conversation and was told that I am the only name on that number in their computer and that the administration does not rectify or investigate such issues.
So Cross Country is content to ignore my pleas and demands. This company insists that I make all effort to clear this up. They refuse to take her or me off line. As a result, we can see each others' banking info.
I am furious and at a loss. I would love to close out account which I have had for years and cut the card but I'm not able to do so at this point.
What a cheap organization! When I asked poor Patricia for the name of company official, such as CEO or president, she said over and over they are not allowed to release such information! I was amazed. Where is this company? In the Soviet Union? A Police State?
Is it really possible for someone to use my credit card number with no problem?
