When we found out what a ripoff Capital One was, we applied for 0% cards to pay off the Capital One balance. Although we got 2 denials and made the payment from our bank account, the 2 denying companies actually paid Capital One. We asked that the money be refunded to us and to one of the cards. Capital One took 4 months to refund our overpayment.
Imagine what Capital One had done had we made no payment for 4 months! It wasn't until after we filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (http://www.ftc.com) and another with the Better Business Bureau that we got our refund.
