In the first year I had an escrow account with PHH, I had the following problems:
- two tax payments made late, with $150 in late fees that were charged to my account despite promptly mailing the bills to them
- 1098 statement with interest paid for the year was incorrect and did not match information on their web site
- next year's escrow analysis was completely wrong - I had to research and provide all the correct numbers to avoid having my monthly escrow payment be $600 too high
When I asked to have the late fees refunded I was told that they had no record of receiving one of the bills and as a result of it being "lost in the mail" the late fees were my fault and responsibility despite originally being told that I would not be held responsible for them. I then asked to be released from escrow since I know I pay my bills on time and was told that this was not possible. They have taken no accountability for these problems - and why would they since they simply charge the late fees they cause to the consumer?
