Unhappy with Amex customer service - Kinderzeat High Chai

I bought a high chair that was fraudulently described as being a newer version than it actually was. Once I got home and realized it was the wrong product, I tried to return it the next day but the merchant did not let me. I appealed the charge with Amex twice and they took 2 months to process it each time and denied me. Now I'm trying to use Amex's return protection, but they are asking me to mail them the high chair at my own expense, which will cost half the value of the chair! This is not helpful customer service for someone who charges thousands of dollars per month on their card and is a loyal customer. I'm going to look into other cards with rewards like Discover now.
