I used an AMEX gift card at Home Depot and it was a huge mistake. I made a return and was told I had to come in the next morning to get my refund. This is a 40 mile RT for me. I was then told to come back 4 hours later when a manager was in to do a refund.
AMEX first lied and told me I'd get cash back because gift cards are "non-rechargeable". I accepted this because when I purchased even large items and had to return to Home Depot that were purchased on VISA/MC the store gave me CASH back without even asking if I wanted the card credited.
AMEX gift cards are supposed to be good anywhere their stupid card is accepted.gift cards are like Cash. However AMEX IS A SCAM! Dare to return a product and the store a) doesn't know how to process (Home Depot Manager Debbie Lee and her staff are completely uneducated), and furthermore, AMEX lets the store refund the money only back to the card BUT the scam is folks, you don't get use of YOUR MONEY for 3-7 days according to Amex brochure, however Amex Cust. Svc. Tells me, "oh, its more like 5-10 days". WONDERFUL WAY TO TREAT A CUSTOMER YOU MORONS!
My advice DO NOT FOR ANY REASON ever buy these scam cards. I'm out $1,000 NOW! I have NO use of MY money and I am BEING PUNISHED for using Amex! AMERICAN EXPRESS SUCKS. And once you buy the cards; you'll never see a dime of your money. Amex in fine print tells you, don't blame us for anything. Basically you're fu*ed if you buy our cards. HOME DEPOT is at fault for NOT treating my AMEX card as they did Visa/MC. Why do they refund so generously when its my Visa/MC and now that I have this Amex gift card suddenly they can take advantage of TAKING MY MONEY and then delaying giving it back to me? IS THIS NOT THEFT PEOPLE?
Yes I used language, deal with it. Don't buy these cards and whatever you do don't go to Home Depot and use them if you think you might have a return because Amex either doesn't give a shit if merchants are educated about the cards uselessness, or Home Depot is a bunch of morons.
Either way I'm out $1,000. Thanks amex and home depot. I could have paid my fu*ing mortgage this month but hey, I'll lend you my money interest free you bastards. Rip off rip off rip off.
