I have been an American Express customer for over 20 years and used the card for most purchases. I had excellent credit until losing my job in 2009 and recently fell behind by two months. I called AMEX to let them know I would pay but needed to collect from my customer first. Said I was willing to pay finance charges-but I was told that was not an option-pay up or it goes to collection.
I also had AMEX Plum. Never late and sometimes early. Paid off the entire amount this month that I owed and they cancelled that account too.
I'm done with AMEX. Screw them!
