Hopper Sling adapter does not work outside of local network - Hopper, Joey (3) & Sling

I just purchased Dish Network and the hopper DVR package with the Sling adapter. I am very happy with everything except the Sling Adapter. The issue is that it only works when you are connected to it from your local internal network. I contacted support for the issue thinking I must have the wrong holes in my firewall to allow the correct access, but I found out that it is a known issue. I am very pissed off because when I called dish to add the device, I was not notified of any current issues, and when I contacted support, I asked how they will notify me of issue updates and resolution information. They replied that they will not communicate this to customers.
I think that it is bogus of a company to sell a product service that they know has major issues and they do not even mention that to the customer. And then all of us with the issue have to continue to check back to find out when we can actually use this device that we have already paid for. I think Dish should notify new customers of the issue and notify existing customers of progress and resolution steps when they get the issue resolved. I also think dish should somehow compensate customers that are affected by this issue.
