On 1/19 my husband and I placed a deposit in the amount of $698 on a vacation package offered by Ramada Plaza Resorts (RPR). We had received vouchers in the mail and when we spoke to them on the phone we were told all about the five-star luxury accomodations in Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale Fl. And the first-class cruise to Nassau.
We were already planning to take our children to Disney this summer and this seemed like a great deal.
Then we went on the web looking for photos of where we would be staying and of the cruise ship.instead we found hundreds of horror stories about RPR and their vacations. We searched more objectively and also found that the rooms and cruise we were being offered were available elsewhere for much less than RPR claimed was the value of the vacation package, even less than we would actually end up paying at our "special discounted rate"
We were angry and immediatly contacted RPR to cancel and ask for a refund. We got exactly what had been reported, rude customer service and a refusal to refund our money. We were NEVER informed our deposit was non-refundable! Following the conversation, I immediatly contacted our credit card company. It was too late to stop the charge, but we filed a dispute and sent them the necessary information.
Then, after looking at this site and others, I decided to take the advice a couple of other poor souls had given. I filed a complaint with my Attorney General and also with the Florida Division of Consumer Services. Try this it works!
On 2/14 the entire amount was credited back to our credit card account! Keep records of all phone calls, who you talk to and save all paperwork. Make your reports as detailed as possible. I cannot say for sure which one of these offices helped us the most, so try everthing!
Don't dispair, you CAN get your money back!
Thank you consumer complaintss for making information available to help me know who to contact to accomplish this. You saved us from losing $698!
