Hello, recently my two sons ages 19 and 22 - flew from NY to Rome on Alitalia Airlines. For the return trip to NY the boys missed their flight. The airline charged them in Rome for full round trip tickets to get home. When the boys returned home to NY they contacted the airline to inquire about the usage of the return trip tickets to Rome. The airline said the return date expired and the tickets were no longer valid.
The boys wrote a letter to the president of the airline and customer service to question why the return date would only have a life expectancy of a few days.
The airline has refused to extend the return date or offer a credit. They did give a minimal $25 credit for taxes.
Thought you should know..
