We recently stayed at the Swades Guesthouse, Pondicherry, India, run by a ilyas ZAMIL. The guesthouse was highly recommended on Tripadvisor, however we had a horrible experience there. PPon checking in, we noticed there was no safe in the room. We were told not to worry as there is no crime in the area and the front door is always locked.
Our room was locked also. However when we came back to our room, the door as open, my laptop was gone, and so was all the money i had stored in my bag.
When we told the owner he laughed and said 'oh well thats what happens when you travel with a laptop in India'. The more we complained the more he laughed.
We suspect it was him who stole it, as he is the only one who had a key to our room and the lock on the door itself had not been busted.
When we checked out he continued laughing and said 'I hope you have learned your lesson about travelling with a laptop in India - and only an idiot carries around that much money in their bag!'
This was such a horrible experience, we wish to warn people about this guesthouse.
