I booked a trip through Priceline.com today and I don't know why I even bother with this company anymore. They are masters at the bait and swtich and this has happened on more than one occasion.
For the reservation I booked in December, we just booked the hotel for this trip. We asked for a 3 star hotel and our bid was accepted. The problem is the hotel they booked as at is not a 3 star hotel; it is a 1 star hotel and that is being generous.
On their site, it reads a 3 star hotel as a Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt. I can tell you this particular hotel is outdated, and dirty, and the reviews online get a 1 star rating from actual guests.
Their customer service department at Priceline is a complete and utter joke. They should seriously reconsider re-naming that dept. If they are going to treat their customers the way they do.
The other story I have about Priceline is great. I booked a trip at a 2 star budget hotel in Lombard, IL
We traveled all day and arrived at about midnight. When we got to the hotel, they were full. No kidding. We had a reservation but the hotel was booked and when we arrived the front door was locked. The cleaning woman finally answered the door after 20 minutes of buzzing the front window. The woman didn't speak any English. She told me they were full and that I would have to go to their sister property 22 MILES AWAY!!! Imagine being in a strange town with a reservation, only to have the hotel tell you they are full and you have to go another 30 minutes down the road @ midnight.
I tried calling Priceline to get this resolved at the time. I emailed them and called them and nobody bothered to call back. This is one of the worst companies I have ever had the dis-pleasure of dealing with. To make matters worse, the exact same thing happened about a month later. Different city, same hotel chain, and same response from Priceline.
I can safely say that I will NEVER use them again.
