Ripoff wont send itemized statements keeps adding charges wont let me talk

I got this phone and plan for my 22 year old son to use. We had no problems until the plan ended and Verizon stopped sending itemized bills. My son's average monthly bill was around $60 for the whole time so we thought the plan was sufficient to meet his needs. 3 months after the plan ended, his girlfriend moved out of state and his calling increased.

He was under the impression that if she called him, it wouldnt come off his alotted time. He also thought he still had free nights and weekends.in a very short amount of time, the charges became astonomical. $500 then $700. The bills hadnt been itemized since March but we werent aware of a problem until the big bills came in.

My son has a chronic mental illness and at times is suicidal. He lives in subsidized housing and is managed by the Denver Mental Health system. He needed to have a phone for his own safety. The bill is in my name which means that Verizon will not talk to anyone but myself about this bill even though I never used the phone and my son was paying the bills. I have written to Verizon online but got no response.

Then they started calling and I returned the call and explained the situation and they would only come down on the bill by $300 IF I signed a new contract. My son's phone was overheating and was practically worthless and he thought he could find a better deal with his girlfriends plan so he didnt want to do that. So Verizon cut off his phone and during the 5 weeks that his phone was off, added another $400 to his bill. When I asked them how that could be if they disconnected his phone and they said it was only "temporarily disconnected" and they added late fees.

Does this sound right? I gave Verizon written permission online and by phone to speak with my son, his case manager and a counselor to try to set up a payment plan. They have refused to even talk to these people and call me at least two times a day. I can no longer access their online communications. The man I talked to last week was rude and wouldnt let me speak.

I had sent a $25 payment last week while I waited for them to send me itemized bills from April until Sept to see if everything was legitiment. He did say the payment was received but they immediately sent the account to him and have not sent the itemized statements.

I also looked over the service agreement that I signed in March and there are many boxes left blank. It doesnt have a term length checked. There isnt any information about the phone I got with the plan. This bill is now over $2000 and he hasnt used the phone since August and we have yet to see what the itemized charges were.

I have filed a report with the Colorado Attorney General's office which sent a report to the BBB in New Jersey.
