Telemarketing Fraud

I am a long time subscriber to POPULAR SCIENCE.in April I received a phone call from a telemarketer telling me they were calling for Popular Science and that my subscription would soon expire. I agreed to a 36 month renewal for $44.85.in September I received another call from a telemarketer purporting to be Popular Science. Not remembering that I had renewed in April I agreed to a 48 month renewal for $47.76 and allowed them to debit my checking account.

In October when I received my bank statement and saw the debit I realized what had happened and wrote customer service at Popular Science explaining what had happened and that I felt I was mislead by their telemarketer. I asked that either the April or September renewal be cancelled and my money refunded.

Customer service responded that my renewal was entered through PUBLISHERS COMM SYSTEMS, INC. (somewhere in area code 954) and that they could not refund my subscription because it had come through a magazine agency.in other words they are not responsible for the actions of their own agent. I have also emailed higher ups at POPULAR SCIENCE including the Publisher Gregg R. Hano who has not shown me the courtesy of a reply. I plan to continue my complaints to the FTC telemarketing agency and any other online complaint sites I can find.

One other thing, the electronic check was payable to ELITE PUBLICATIONS and was negotiated in Richmond, Va.
