I ordered four boxes of Pergo hardwood flooring and trim from the Hobart, Indiana Home Depot the week of November 28th. I was told the flooring should arrive at the store in approximately a week and a half. After the allotted time I went to the store to check on the status of my order, as no one had contacted me to tell me our floor was not in yet. They called Pergo to answer my question. Pergo told them it was on back order and it would be another week before it shipped to their store. I agreed.
Finally, the product arrived at the store, but I was never informed when it arrived. I had to walk into Home Depot to find out. I brought my flooring home the night of the 12th, and the next day I started laying the floor. My wife and I were having our families over the weekend of the 18th and wanted our home to be completed by then. Upon opening the boxes of flooring, I realized all of it was cracked or damaged. Every box including the trim was damaged. One box of trim was not even the correct color.
I went back to Home Depot the next day, and Home Depot reordered the product with the promise that it would be rush delivered and that they would personally deliver it to our home free of charge. I once again agreed because we planned on ordering our carpet and windows from Home Depot when our floor was finished.
The following week came, and again no one called me to tell us the flooring still had not arrived. They told me it should be in within a few more days but that they would call Pergo to find out for sure. Pergo said it would not be in for another week. I was furious. It was now almost 4 weeks from the time I first placed my floor order, and I was still left with no product and no compensation for the trouble. I canceled the order and told them I was going to a competitor to get my flooring. The store employee did nothing to stop me from going to their competitor to buy the product. I left Home Depot empty handed and disappointed with their service and went to the other store, where I was graciously helped and returned home the same day with the product in hand. I will now continue to drive that extra 10 minutes to the other store for everything I need in my home. The Hobart, Indiana Home Depot store has horrible customer service.
After I purchased the flooring, trim, and stain from the other store, I called the Hobart Home Depot to let the store manager, Terry Girzus, know how my service was handled. I was unable to speak with him, but I did let the assistant manager, Candice Campbell, know. All she said was, "Sorry to hear that, and have a good holiday." Again, I was disappointed in the service I received, so I am writing this letter in hopes that future customers have a better experience than I did. I will now take my service, my family's, my friends', my co-workers', and anyone who will listen, and tell them that the other store is better able to serve them and their needs.
