This is the most embarassing and humiliating event of my entire adult life. I was in store #4266 in Wayne Michigan.
I went and picked up 24 bottles of Downy Fabric Softener which Family Dollar has for $1.00 plus tax per bottle.
I approached the register, the first thing the cashier said to me was "aren't you the chick that tried to scam us out of Dawn soap using coupons?" Stunned I replied "NO".
The cashier rings up the 24 bottles of Downy, then I hand her 24 coupons which read: "Save $1.00 on ANY SIZE DOWNY FABRIC SOFTENER, EXCEPT WRINKLE RELEASER" (coupon expires 5/31/04).
The cashier says "I can't take these coupons that would mean you get the product for free". I stated that I realized that, and I have been to several Family Dollars already and they took the coupons because I was abiding by Family Dollar coupon policy and I was abiding by the terms of the manufacturer.
She said she would get her manager. The manager (refused to give her last name, first name is CARLA) points out "it says one coupon per purchase" and to HER it meant one transaction for one product. (already there is a line of people behind me). I then said, well just ring up 24 separate orders. She took my coupons, put her nose up in the air and THREW MY COUPONS AT ME! (I am now very embarassed and very humiliated).in my frustration I asked for corporates phone number because I would call them on my cell phone in the store, and she told me "the number is on the door on your way out, I am sure you can find it yourself!"
At this point, I know that I did, I admit it, I muttered the word b*tch and she started screaming at me that I can't call her any names because SHE is the manager and I must be SCAMMING and I should go back to the Ypsilanti store where I came from to scam off of them! ALL OF THIS IN FRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS!!!
At that point she tells me to leave HER store. I refuse and tell her to call the police&because I have not done anything wrong!!!
She says what is the number for the Police... I reply with "try 911"! Fine the police get called... As we are waiting, she is snobbily walking around and proceeds to tell other customers who state that I am doing nothing wrong, that she "doesn't have the f*cking time to ring up these orders, that it is obvious I am stealing from them"... I AM LESS THAN 10 FEET FROM THIS SO CALLED MANAGER WHILE SHE IS SAYING THIS TO OTHER PEOPLE!!!
I refuse to be treated this way by anyone, but especially someone claiming to be representing a company!
The Police come and she has them issue a "trespassing notice" to me which states that I am no longer allowed ANYWHERE near the store or in the store! I am sorry, but there are other stores that share the same parking lot with this Family Dollar!
So, I am being punished and embarassed for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG!!! I tried to call corporate and nothing was done, I got voice mail after voice mail. I am considering suing Family Dollar and this manager for the humiliating experience and for having me illegally barred from public property!
I will go to every media outlet until this is resolved and the manager is reprimanded. This is NOT how you treat a customer... This is NOT how you treat anyone that enters a store and it is CERTAINLY NOT how a manager should behave to a customer!
I am using coupons the way they were meant to be used as established by Family Dollar's corporate policy and the policies established by the manufacturers of the products that Family Dollar CHOOSES to carry!
I want this "trespassing" order lifted from my name by corporate immediately! I have never been barred from any establishment for any reason in my whole life! How humiliating and SHAME ON FAMILY DOLLAR!
The manager request that I be arrested because I called her a name (I know that I shouldn't have, but I was really frustrated and very embarrassed for a LEGAL transaction)!!! ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IN FRONT OF MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS!
I expect an answer to this email and all correspondance that I will be sending in the next few days.
