I moved my residential stuff from Seattle, WA to Plano, TX on 09/04 thru Jordan River Moving and Storage. I was given a BINDING ESTIMATE based on a visual estimate of $ 2615.00 but made a final payment of $ 2775. I would like to file a claim/complaint for $160.
I called Jordan River's office on 08/30 to ask if they could pick up my stuff on 09/02. I spoke with the owner Mr. Jack and he told me that he was away from office and so he would not be able to help me and that I should call him the next day to confirm whether they would be able to pick up my stuff on 09/02. I couldn't call the next day due to some personal reasons and so didn't confirm the pick up date.
Mr. Jack claims that he sent movers to pick up the stuff on 09/02. I never confirmed the date so I was not expecting them and I was not at home. When I called them on 09/03 and asked them that why they sent the movers without getting my confirmation, they told me that I should not bother and it is okay. I, then, confirmed the pick up date of 09/04 and also confirmed the amount of $ 2615.00 for the move and they picked up my stuff on 09/04 as decided. I didn't give them my Computer table and they agreed to give me a refund of $ 10 to compensate for the weight reduction.
But before delivering my stuff in Plano, Texas the owner Mr. Jack called us and he asked $ 300 more for the waiting period on 09/02. When we told them that we never asked them to come on 09/02, he argued that we did. We also told him that we have binding contract with Jordan River Moving and Storage but he started to getting rude with us and told us that he very well knows the meaning of it and he said that they wouldn't deliver our stuff and charge us for keeping our stuff in storage. They never revealed to us these charges before the pick-up. The inventory list and the contract given to us during pick-up clearly indicate no such charges on the form at the time of pick-up.
They could have very well told us these charges before taking our stuff but didn't do that because Jordan River wanted to take our stuff first and then blackmail us for the money. After several requests, he just agreed to reduce the amount by $ 150.00. We had no option but to pay $ 150.00 on top of the moving charges of $ 2615.00. We even tried to take help of the local police in Plano, Texas at the time of delivery of our stuff but the police advised us to pay them now and resolve the matter later. We did as we were advised by the police.
The driver didn't deduct $ 10.00 as agreed at the time of pick up. We pointed out the mistake but he said he wouldn't deliver our stuff and would charge us for the wait and we should talk to the Jordan River Moving and Storage Office. We tried calling their office but it was closed and the driver kept being impatient saying that he would charge us for the wait. We just gave him what he was asking for to avoid further complications. These companies just try to take advantage of the fact that the stuff is with them and then they blackmail and manipulate their customers for anything.
During delivery of our stuff, the company officials and delivery men were rude and arrogant and were making us feel helpless. Moving companies like Jordan River Moving and Storage take advantage of the fact that you will not probably go back to your city of origin once you have moved to a distant city and file your claim in small claim court. I am claiming $ 150.00 (charged for the wait on 09/02) $ 10.00 (for the weight reduction), a total of $ 160.00 from Jordan River Moving and Storage Inc.
