I bought out my equipment over 18 months ago. I had 4 year lease in which ended up being a 7 year lease because they would not let me cancel due to a small window of time each year in order to do so. So I finally hit the window, got the equipoment bought out and heard nothing or had nothing electronically debited since then... Until today. I noticed they were trying to take the amount of $185.16 from an old account that I have and don't keep much in-it was going to overdraft. So I called the bank, stopped payment and called Northern Leasing to find out what was going on. I was told by a representative that the charge was from an audit from within their own company, and they found according to the rep. That I had either been undercharged or misbilled this amount. When I repeatedly explained to this lady that the equipment had already been bought out, she repeatedly told me that they could take whatever they felt I owed them for 20 years or more without prior notice. She said that this was stated in the contract. I no longer have this contract as it was fullfilled 18 months ago - I don't understand-they gave me the buy out price. It should not take an internal audit to see if someone made their monthly payment or not. They would have called if they didn't get their money. I have filed a complaint with the Indiana att. Generals office, and will also file with New York's. Please tell me what do when they start calling wanting this money or when they don't get ot put it on my credit report. This has to be an illegal practice, and something need to be done about instances such as these. There is no way that a satisfied contract should be able to be charged again by their discretion with no warning or explanation.
