Direct Long Distance Billed credit card after Telemarketer called. We did not provide credit card number so they must have had it

In late July my wife received a telemarketer call from Direct Long Distance. She agreed to receive a brochure, nothing else. She did not provide a credit card number or birthdate. Two weeks later she received the brochure.

At the end of August she received her credit card statement. Direct Long Distance had charged $64.60 for the long distance service plan. My wife immediately contested the charge with the credit card company.

After numerous tries to the "customer service" number at DLD provided in the brochure my wife finally got through and vehemently complained. The representatative said she would cancel the "deal" that my wife never made.

The big question is: Since my wife did not give the credit card number to the telemarketer, how did she get it? She must have the card number before making the call! From where did she get it? What is the source of the telemarketer's information?
They should have to provide that information.
We will file a further report if the charge shows up again.
